After Edie was discharged from hospital 2 years later following her Polio diagnosis, she attended Leatherhead College for the disabled in which she studied office skills. She then left Gosberton, Spalding (where she grew up) to live with her sister Alice in Walton, Peterborough. Edie then started her first job at Peterborough Motors and worked there for many years.
